Cutting

Drilling, tapping, and broaching are examples of cutting that require energy for each cutting cycle. The energy profile during a drilling cycle will generate a repeatable signature for equal conditions, however as the drill becomes worn or the material hardness changes, the profile will change proportionally to the amount of degradation in the process. Tapping will have similar characteristic variances in the process if, for example, the hole diameter changes due to a worn drill or lack of lubrication.
